Bourne Town Reds 3 – Riverside 2

Bourne Reds met Riverside in this Peterborough Junior Alliance League Cup 2^nd round clash at Bourne’s Recreation Road ground.  The Reds started off brightly with the whole team playing some superb football.  This led to an opening goal for the home team after only 5 minutes, when defender Liam Gibson took the ball with pace down the full length of the pitch and crossed in perfectly to the feet of Sol Rayment who finished calmly.  Ten minutes later Bourne increased their lead when midfielder Matthew Bills fed through to Rayment onto Tom Login, then finally to a well placed Rocky Milne who fired home.  Minutes later another great attack by Milne, Login and Rayment was halted by an offside decision against Rayment.  After this though the tables turned as Riverside took advantage of Bourne’s sudden loss of sparkle and closed the gap with a well taken tap-in.  Riverside started the second half with admirable levels of skill and determination, and after ten minutes claimed an equaliser following a breakdown in communication at the back.  Bourne keeper Josh James made some brave one-on-one saves which helped maintain the equal scoreline.  At this point Bourne’s confidence could easily have been shattered, but full credit to the lads as they stayed focused to retake the lead.  A clever through ball from Rayment to Login led to a superb 18 yard strike from the latter, taking the Reds through to the next round of the competition.
